ABOUT THE THYROID TOP DOCTORS DIRECTORY
The following listing includes recommended doctors and practitioners for your thyroid care.
Please note that being listed here in the Thyroid Top Doctors Directory doesn't necessarily mean a doctor is the right one for you. The doctor may be an empathetic and warm physician, but not open to working with drugs like Armour or T3 drugs. Or the doctor may be quite costly and not on insurance programs. Always call the doctor's office ahead of time to find out more about the doctor's philosophy, approach, costs, and other important factors before going in for your first appointment.
Please let us know if you have feedback about doctors listed here, or would like to recommend your doctor.
Brookfield
Bruce Klink, DO, Family Practice, 13850 West Capitol Dr., WI 53045,

Armour Thyroid and working with me to get just he right level for me prescribed. He's also willing to
adjust my dosage according to how I feel I'm doing." (Added 6/05)
A reader writes:
"I found Dr. Klink on this site. I was already on T4 for 12 years but still felt poorly. Dr. Klink ran a
lot of tests to check everything including thyroid peroxidase AB. My TSH was in normal range but my
thyroid peroxidase was incredibly high so we have added T3 (armour) to my regime. He
listens and cares about how you are feeling, not test result numbers. He knows that the thyroid meds need
tweaking depending on how you are feeling and is more than willing to work with his patients on it. He
is great!" (Added Apr 06) Delafield

been his patient for a year and feel great!!! He is very open to alternative
treatment." Eau Claire

Eau Claire, WI 54702, (715) 858-4500. A reader writes: "Dr. Adkins is the tops! He listened to my
symptoms as well as looking at my Lab Reports. He also knew
enough to throw out the TSH test since I've had a Pituitary Tumor removed in the past. He also added
T-3 to my treatment and it was exactly what I needed. My sister started seeing him on my
recommendation and he's helping her too. Dr. Adkins is truly a very capable and caring doc! Thanks Dr.

jmewilson@hotmail.com A reader recommends: "Dr. Fernando is honest,
open, caring and well-educated when it comes to thyroid, endocrine and
obesity disorders. She listens to you with great interest and believes
that we are all unique individuals that should be treated as such. Dr.
Fernando will order the appropriate tests to look at all aspects of
the thyroid. She will explain how your thyroid works, what the test
results indicate, and what the best types of medication and plan of
treatment are to treat your hypothyroidism. She uses Armour Thyroid,
as well as other thyroid medications. She is also working in the Green
Bay and Appleton area; so give her office a call to find out what her
schedule is. She has me on the right road to "thyroid recovery" and
is working to monitor not only my health, but weight problem, as well.
Thank you Dr. Fernando!" (Added 11/02)
Another reader recommends Dr. Fernando:
"Dr. Fernando has her main office in Janesville, but also works out
of the Green Bay and Appleton area. Dr. Fernando believes in treating
her patients as unique individuals. She is very pro-active in taking
a team approach between patient and doctor to treat your disease. She
uses Armour thyroid because it provides the body with calcitonin, T0,
T1, T2, T3 and T4 - so much more than what synthetic hormones offer.
Dr. Fernando is very flexible and will be happy to discuss alternative
methods if you are unable to take Armour. She is honest, open, caring
and very well education in thyroid disorders, endocrine disorders, and
weight issues. I am truly fortunate to have found such a receptive and
enthusiastic doctor willing to sit down face-to-face with her patients
and explain the mechanics of how your thyroid works, what your test
results indicate, and what plan of treatment to get you started on.
Thank you Dr. Fernando!" (Added 11/02)

"Dr. Fernando listens to her patients and treats them as unique individuals.
She will explain the mechanics of how your thyroids works, what types
of medications are available to treat your condition, and will develop
a plan of treatment that is personalized and flexible for her patients.
She is very active in following up with her patients progress by ordering
the full range of tests needed. Dr. Fernando will prescribe Armour Thyroid,
as well as other medications to help you manage your disease. She is
kind, caring, and listens to your concerns with an open mind. Dr. Fernando
also works in the Appleton/Green Bay area." (Added 11/02)
Note: Dr. Fernando is primarily a specialist in bariatrics (weight loss). Also, follow visits can be
expensive, and insurance may not cover all or part of her services. (Added 10/05) Kenosha

what your blood work shows. She is open to using Natural Thyroid drugs
-- herbs and osteopathic manipulative therapy. Her office feels more
like a friends house than a doctor's office. She is the most compassionate
and yet completely thorough and professional doctore I have ever seen.

"Dr. Kroker ordered a T3 test on me the 1st time I saw him. When he
discovered I had a T3 problem he immediately changed my prescription
to Armour after previous Dr.'s had erroneously medicated me with Synthroid
for 9 years - never testing me for anything except T4! I recently moved
to CA and he returned my call immediately to put me in touch with a
Doctor who would acknowledge me as a patient. My allergies & Candidiasis
has improved about 80% since Dr. Kroker began treating me for all 3
conditions. I highly recommend him!" Lakewood
Kathie Huncuski, Physicians Assistant, Nicolet Clinic, Lakewood
715-276-6321.
A reader writes, "She listens, and she is interested in making you well.
She is open to other options. If you have read an article about something
different or new, bring it to her. She will research it and find if
it is a good thing for you. I have just started my treatment with her
for hypothyroidism. She was totally in agreement to check into my adrenal
glands when I suggested it and told me it was her next move anyhow.
She was willing to try more meds when I told her I felt that I wasn’t
on a high enough dose. She keeps track of my tests and is keeping me
feeling better than I have in a long time." Madison

with her about--like Synthroid is the best drug and I didn’t really
need T3--she spent a long time looking over my previous test results
and agreed that although they were "normal" that they might not be normal
for me. We agreed on extending my meds and retesting in 2 months with
a follow-up visit. She teaches at the medical college and knew other
doctors I knew. She spent 1 1/2 hours just talking about my history
and family and then discussing possible treatments." Milwaukee

Dr. Waisbren enough." (Added 4/04)

Lincoln Street (Affinity Clinic), Neenah WI 54956, 920 727-4395. A reader writes: "Her special interest
is thyroid disease, she listens and treats symptoms and not just lab results. Her care
is very individualized and she is very aware that everyone is different and does not go strictly by the
book. She can think outside the box. She takes time to listen. I'm a nurse and I've talked to her nursing
staff and they all have great things to say about her. She does not believe in armour thyroid, however,
for anyone looking for that. She believes in adding T3 when T4 doesn't seem to be enough. (She said
there are drug companies working on long-acting T3 and is really excited about it. She is very accessible
and I've always been able to get an appointment quickly when I'm having problems. She is also keeps
very current on new research." (Added 1/06)

possible -- tend to be more open minded -- better listeners. Though
I don't know personally about this doc, I just want to provide the option
for people to find a doc that will Rx Armour."
Another reader writes:
He is already listed for Wisconsin Dells but the description is sparse.
He is a wonderful listener and very familiar with body chemistry. He
is determined to find the "real" cause of a problem. He spends a great
deal of time with patients and has a gift for reassuring the patient
that together they will find the problem and the solution. He was a
life saver for my 18 year old daughter with a thyroid problem and for
me as well.
Why is a Particular Doctor No Longer Listed?
Doctors who were previously listed here are removed for a number of reasons.
1. The doctor has requested that his/her listings be removed because: he/she does not agree with this site’s philosophy or patient-orientation; the practice is too busy and can’t accept new patients; the doctor does not feel comfortable handling complicated thyroid problems; the doctor did not agree with what was said in the patient recommendations; or the doctor said “take me off the list” and offered no explanation.
2. The doctor has moved, retired, or died.
3. The doctor has lost his/her license, or given up his/her license, and is no longer practicing medicine.
4. Patients have provided negative input about the doctor that is of sufficient concern that, in the opinion of the editor, the doctor should no longer be on the Top Thyroid Doctors List.
Thyroid Top Doctors would face legal concerns if we published specific information about why patients had negative opinions about doctors, or if we shared a doctor’s occasional ranting ”take me off” email, or if we publicized doctors with licensing problems. So please, if you see that a doctor has been taken off the list and want to know why, talk to the doctor directly. If you write to us to ask why a doctor was taken off the list, we’re sorry, but we won’t be able to answer you or share that information.
