She is kind and very caring. I was expecting an uphill battle in convincing him that my thyroid condition was being under treated with just Synthroid. To my surprise, he listened to all my symptoms and before I could mention the Study about the use of T3 in addition to T4 mentioned in The New England Journal of Medicine, he asked me if I’d tried Thyrolar or Armour. He said he was glad the Journal printed the study, it confirmed what he’s believed all along. He then asked me if I understood the TSH level and explained it to me. He wrote me a prescription for Thyrolar. Hopefully I’ll see some results soon."

She's very knowledgeable, personable, down to earth & best of all, willing to work WITH me rather than AGAINST me experimenting with various thyroid drugs & dosages to find what works best for ME. Because I don't have insurance at the time he was willing to work with me on the frequency of blood tests. He knew all about the testing for T4 and T3. If anyone who lives in the N. I finally chose a ND Dr. Ramauro- for my new PCP. She carefully listened and wrote down my concerns then told me a number of things she'd like to explore - all things I've recently read about on my own. She took blood for a variety of tests and upped my Levoxyl level saying she'd rather see my TSH between 1 and 2 and n see if I need to add a T3 replacement drug. She makes phone calls and is very persistent about follow-up appointments. I nearly cried during our first appt because she is finally giving me the care, expertise and guidance I was so desperately seeking from my other doc. I would recommend Dr. Ramauro to any friend who could possibly have a thyroid problem."

"I was diagnosed as Hypothyroid in my mid 20s. In my late 20s my symptoms increased and I bounced from Dr. to Dr. feeling like I was crazy for saying I still didn't feel well or like myself. I had used the Women's Center for Health at Evergreen Hospital before and decided to go see Dr. Ramauro as an alternative to jumping from doctor to doctor with no results. Dr. Ramauro truly listened to my concerns, my frustrations, and what I perceived as my symptoms. "I have had temporary thyroiditis in the past with sub-clinical hypothyroid in the past, and I went to a new doctor. Her approach was to do what was the "industry standard" and when my TSH level came back as normal, all I received was a "I hope you are feeling better" letter in the mail. I went to Doctor Blaski on a recommendation from a friend and she listened, did more tests, including antibodies and low and behold I was right and there is something wrong, my TPO antibody test was at nearly 20! She even encouraged me before we got the test results back that even if they all came back as "normal" she would find out what was wrong. Now she has referred me to Dr. Murray (also on this list) for more tests. I really liked her because she took the time to listen and talk to me as a peer rather than talking down to me, and she doesn't treat her patients like lab values."

"I saw Dr. Moore's name listed on this site and was lucky enough to be able to get a referral to see him from my insurance provider. I had been suffering from rampant swings due to my Hashimoto's and had a suspicious mass as well. I ended up with a total thyroidectomy due to an incidental finding of 2 rare types of thyroid cancer. Not only did Dr. Moore save my sanity but he probably also saved my life. He was the first doctor in over a year that treated me as a patient who was genuinely suffering and in need of treatment and not as just another neurotic female who needed a prescription for anti-depressants. Not only does he have an amazing bedside manner but his surgical skills are superior and I dare say I will barely even have a scar. "I came to Dr. Gross with a tough thyroid problem the other doctors in the Seattle area did not have the training to treat. I had had thyroid cancer, but because I had had a myelogram I could not have RAI, so I had been prescribed suppressive dosages of Armour thyroid. Since moving to Seattle I had not found a doctor to treat me. Finally I found Dr. Gross, a young fellow, who will listen, yes actually listen and exchange information with me and prescribe Armour thyroid. "I had 2 normal TSH tests in 6 years - and all the classic hypo symptoms. When I had brain fog on T4 - he prescribed T3 (before I knew to ask for it). When I had a super-sensitive reaction to too much T4, he was skeptical but tested my blood levels a week apart and admitted I was right, I’d shot past the normal range, and he revised my meds accordingly. When I told him I had to lower T4 before my period he just said - it’s illogical, but if it works - do it. He treats symptoms - using all available treatments - and he listens to the patient not just test results."

"I learned of Dr. Murray from this site -- thanks! I'd had a goiter for 8 years but consistently received "normal" thyroid reports from other physicians. "Dr Murray listened to me when I came into his office. I was tired and frustrated. I had heard that maybe I had depression because my thryroid wasn't "that low." He turned to me and said, "Don't worry, we're going to fix this. You are going to feel better!" He did the appropriate tests and prescribed Synthroid. When he felt appropriate he prescribed Cytomel. He is always attentive to what I say and how I feel. If I have a complaint about something he listens. He saved my life. "Dr. Murray believes in treating patients, not lab values. In his practice, he's found that patients whose lab work is in the "normal" range, but who still don't feel well, do very well with the addition of Cytomel. He generally aims for TSH of 1.0 or below, but also runs free T3 and Free T4, tweaking medication where needed. Visits and assessment are 3X a year, rather than yearly, so he's really able to keep track of his patients. He is an open-minded breath of fresh air in the stodgy and inflexible endo community of the Pac. Northwest."

Dr. Murry knows his stuff!! I've been seeing Dr. Murry for about 14 years. I even have him give my general GP's a call and tell them where they have erred. He currently has me on Cytomel along with Synthroid and it's wonderful. Mental sluggishness, mood swings, forgetfulness is a thing of the past. "After experiencing a laundry list of strange symptoms, my primary care professional (Joelle Thirsk-Fathi, a WONDERFUL nurse practitioner whose patients will dearly miss her as she is moving into acute care) tested me for thyroid antibodies. Although my TSH, T4 & T3 were normal, my TPO & thyroglobulin antibodies were quite high. The first endocrinologist Joelle referred me to felt my problems were not thyroid in nature, and said I might have panic disorder. Joelle did not give up. She referred me to Dr. Robert Murray, who just recently began treating me for autoimmune thyroid disease. Three days into my treatment, I am already feeling better. "I was referred to Dr. Mo by my insurance provider and was afraid I was being sent to yet another endo who treats by lab values without paying heed to symptoms as well. I was so wrong! He also surprised my by doing my FNA in his office himself. I had two ultrasound guided biopsies cancelled because the radiologists could not "find" my thyroid nodule. Dr. Mo found it with his bare hands. He did a very thorough job and the results helped dictate a treatment that may very well have saved my life! He works well with Dr. David Moore, an Otolaryngologist in the same professional building and they made an excellent partnership for my treatment at Swedish Medical Center. Dr. Mo took the time to really listen to me, was open-minded to my desire to use Armour Thyroid instead of Synthroid, and he even came to the hospital to check on me after my thyroidectomy. "Dr. Mo is without a doubt one of the most receptive Dr.'s I have ever met and I have a VERY LONG history of illness for 34 years of my life. He listens to you. He looks at your medical history. He is interested in you. He like to hear what you think about your symptoms and your opinion as to what you think is contributing to your symptoms. He does not go by what the "lab levels" of normal or not normal are when looking at your blood work when it comes to your TSH, etc. He believes in the new findings that the thyroid level for hypothyroidism can be managed to levels up to .3 to 3 or above. What is normal for most is not normal for you. He isn't negligent in the area. It is just that he listens to you when you tell him where you have felt the best as far as your TSH levels have been. He doesn't put in the "normal level" range for the laboratory normals or abnormal. He puts you to where he thinks and you think you should be. He called my family Dr. right there where I could listen to what he was telling him. He is willing to work with your family Dr. to get you to feeling better and back to as normal as you can get with a problem like Hashimoto's Disease like I have. My sister is going to see him for her hyperthyroid problem. He is a very educated man but yet he doesn't talk down to you. "There are other comments regarding Dr Mozaffarian on this website and concur with everything that has been said. Another one of his patients referred me to him, and it was the best move I have made in treating my thyroid disease. My first endo would tell me that my test results were normal when they were anything but. She advised me not to research my disease on the internet, and to be wary of discussion groups. Why is a Particular Doctor No Longer Listed?

Doctors who were previously listed here are removed for a number of reasons.

1. The doctor has requested that his/her listings be removed because: he/she does not agree with this site’s philosophy or patient-orientation; the practice is too busy and can’t accept new patients; the doctor does not feel comfortable handling complicated thyroid problems; the doctor did not agree with what was said in the patient recommendations; or the doctor said “take me off the list” and offered no explanation.
2. The doctor has moved, retired, or died.
3. The doctor has lost his/her license, or given up his/her license, and is no longer practicing medicine.
4. Patients have provided negative input about the doctor that is of sufficient concern that, in the opinion of the editor, the doctor should no longer be on the Top Thyroid Doctors List.

Thyroid Top Doctors would face legal concerns if we published specific information about why patients had negative opinions about doctors, or if we shared a doctor’s occasional ranting ”take me off” email, or if we publicized doctors with licensing problems. So please, if you see that a doctor has been taken off the list and want to know why, talk to the doctor directly. If you write to us to ask why a doctor was taken off the list, we’re sorry, but we won’t be able to answer you or share that information.
