ABOUT THE THYROID TOP DOCTORS DIRECTORY
The following listing includes recommended doctors and practitioners for your thyroid care.
Please note that being listed here in the Thyroid Top Doctors Directory doesn't necessarily mean a doctor is the right one for you. The doctor may be an empathetic and warm physician, but not open to working with drugs like Armour or T3 drugs. Or the doctor may be quite costly and not on insurance programs. Always call the doctor's office ahead of time to find out more about the doctor's philosophy, approach, costs, and other important factors before going in for your first appointment.
Please let us know if you have feedback about doctors listed here, or would like to recommend your doctor.

Juana Diaz
Guireida Rivera Colon, Endocrinologist, Calle Comercio, Esquina Hostos
#5, Juana Diaz, P.R. 00795, (787) 837-5952. "When I went to doctor Colon,
I had already been seen from different doctors for approximately 2 years.
My hands and feet were always cold no matter what I did. My face, hands,
arms and ankles were always swollen. I felt depressed and irritable
all the time. My mind felt as if it had cotton balls in it. I gained
weight continuously no matter what I tried. I kept getting more and
more bloated. My periods were extremely irregular. I had gone to several
doctors but they kept telling me that there was nothing wrong with me.
I kept feeling worse and worse. Finally a doctor gave some antidepressants.
I told him that I had nothing to be depressed over. He told me that
sometimes there were chemical imbalances that could not be explained.
I took the antidepressants for two months and all it did was give me
nausea. The weight continued to creep up and I felt worse. My regular
doctor kept telling me that I needed to exercise and stop eating candy.
. I was very frustrated because I had been going to the gym for two
and a half months and had been eating only vegetables. I thought that
maybe that was the way I was supposed to be since I am 42 years old.
I felt like I was 100. Finally I went to Puerto Rico to visit my mother
who was ill. While I was there, a fried recommended that I go see doctor
Colon. She was very thorough in her interview and later on the blood
tests. She told me that I was not going crazy or getting old. She immediately
started me on Cytomel. I have been on it for approximately 6 weeks.
I know it is too soon to tell but at least I know that I am feeling
better. I am no longer tired all the time. I also have lost 3 pounds.
Doctor Colon listen and even gave me a letter to bring to my doctor
in Texas. She was great. She told me that after my doctor did other
tests to please send her a copy and that she would call me on the phone
if she felt I needed another referral where I live. Service like this
is not seen anymore. She is excellent!"
Another recommendation:
"I had been feeling sick for approximately 2 years. I was drained. I
could barely do the things that I needed to do around the house just
to get by. I kept going from one doctor to the next. They kept telling
me that I just needed to rest more. In the last year I stared gaining
weight. The doctors kept telling me that I just needed to diet and exercise.
Approximately 6 months ago, I started going to the gym. I was also on
a very strict diet. I wrote down everything that I ate but to no avail.
The last time I went to my regular doctor, he told me that I needed
to lay off the candy. I knew that I was not eating candy or anything
that was not on the diet. I had continued to gain weight. Two months
ago, I went to visit my mother in Puerto Rico. That is when I met doctor
Rivera. She did a very thorough examination and prescribed Cytomel.
I have been on it since then. I finally feel human again. This doctor
has given me my sanity back and I have lost 6 pounds in the process
without having to starve myself." (Added 6/02).
Why is a Particular Doctor No Longer Listed?
Doctors who were previously listed here are removed for a number of reasons.
1. The doctor has requested that his/her listings be removed because: he/she does not agree with this site’s philosophy or patient-orientation; the practice is too busy and can’t accept new patients; the doctor does not feel comfortable handling complicated thyroid problems; the doctor did not agree with what was said in the patient recommendations; or the doctor said “take me off the list” and offered no explanation.
2. The doctor has moved, retired, or died.
3. The doctor has lost his/her license, or given up his/her license, and is no longer practicing medicine.
4. Patients have provided negative input about the doctor that is of sufficient concern that, in the opinion of the editor, the doctor should no longer be on the Top Thyroid Doctors List.
Thyroid Top Doctors would face legal concerns if we published specific information about why patients had negative opinions about doctors, or if we shared a doctor’s occasional ranting ”take me off” email, or if we publicized doctors with licensing problems. So please, if you see that a doctor has been taken off the list and want to know why, talk to the doctor directly. If you write to us to ask why a doctor was taken off the list, we’re sorry, but we won’t be able to answer you or share that information.
