ABOUT THE THYROID TOP DOCTORS DIRECTORY
The following listing includes recommended doctors and practitioners for your thyroid care.
Please note that being listed here in the Thyroid Top Doctors Directory doesn't necessarily mean a doctor is the right one for you. The doctor may be an empathetic and warm physician, but not open to working with drugs like Armour or T3 drugs. Or the doctor may be quite costly and not on insurance programs. Always call the doctor's office ahead of time to find out more about the doctor's philosophy, approach, costs, and other important factors before going in for your first appointment.
Please let us know if you have feedback about doctors listed here, or would like to recommend your doctor.
Akron
Dr. Keith Unger, D.C., Applied Nutrition, 2828 South Arlington Road,
Akron, OH 44312, 330-644-7246, www.thewellnessdoc.com, "He believes in treating the cause and not
the symptoms and explains how to treat the cause(s) or your ailment(s) so that you are able to be
functioning at optimal health. He also takes the time to explain things you need to know." (Added 4/04)
Beachwood
"I should let you know that my optho did a very nice job for me. He
had to give me new upper eyelids because mine had shrunk up due to Graves'
Eye Disease. It was last year on November 4th that he did my operation.
He seemed like the only person who really understood how I was suffering
with the eye pain due to the eye exposure problems. His name is Dr.
Mark R. Levine. His address is: Dr. Mark R. Levine, MD, Ophthalmic Consultants
and Surgeon, 26900 Cedar Rd. Suite 311, Beachwood, Ohio 44122, 1-216-464-1484"
Beachwood/Cleveland/Lindhurst
Dr Jay Morrow, Endocrine Problems, Beachwood/Cleveland, Beachwood,
OH
440-646-1166. "A very nice man. He truly believes symptoms are real
unlike another Dr. I had. He and his 2 partners have had many patients
with thyroid cancer. He is very easy to talk to and his staff is very
nice too."
Another reader recommends Dr. Morrow:
"He is really very amazing. He listens very well and takes plenty of
time to address your concerns and questions. I have had to call for
several different test results and each time, 3 or 4 times now, he has
gotten on the phone and explained them to me. Not only does he explain
them to me, but he makes me feel very comfortable to ask any questions
I might have over the phone. He is the best doctor I have ever been
to. Can you tell I like him?" (Added 2/03)
Another reader writes:
"I have been treated by Dr. Morrow for over 5 years. He is very understanding
of the side effects of thyroid disease and in general an excellent doctor."
(Edited 4/03) Canton / Massillon, Ohio
Dr. Kevin Wietecha, D.O., Endocrinologist, 2860 Lincoln Way E.
Massillon,
OH 44646 833 830-9080 / 4634 Hills & Dales NW, Canton, OH 44708,
330-477-0255 A reader writes: Dr. Wietecha -- pronounced WiTEAsha
-- is my fourth endocrinologist. I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's disease
when I was 15. None of my doctors took the time to explain what the
heck was going on. Dr. Wietecha not only described my condition in terms
I understood, but drew pictures and diagrams to help me understand.
He even sat with each of my divorced parents, separately, to explain
my condition to them. Until Dr. Wietecha, I had never had a doctor ask
for MY opinion about my treatment before. He's a real find in this area
of Ohio."
A reader writes:
"I was hospitalized and being diagnosed with celiac disease when Dr. Wietecha
was assigned to my case. Although I had an endocrinologist in my own
town, no one was asking questions as to why my dose of Synthroid was
at 2.75 mg. (which ended up being due to malabsorption due to Celiac
Disease. Dr. Wietecha asked the right questions and was very interested.
I decided to stay with him and have never been disappointed in the past
3 years. He explains things well and follows me very closely. He cares
about his patients, and he cares about being on time in the office and
not making you wait." (Added: June 2004) Centerville (Dayton area)
David Westbrock,Md,FACP,FACE, Endocrinologist, 7720 Paragon Rd.
Suite
C, Centerville, OH 45459, 937-438-2960. "When I started with Dr. Westbrook,
at my family doctor's referral, I was very ill from hypothyroidism.
He has worked with me and has gotten me back on my feet and doing well
again. He has started me on T3 now as blood work was good but still
having a lot of hypo symptoms. He not only goes by the blood work but
also goes by how you are feeling as he knows everyone is different.
He will look outside the box for answers. There were times that I was
really down and depressed when I went for my appointments and he always
took the time to talk to me when I really needed it. Anytime I have
called his office for anything I am always treated great and gotten
back to promptly. He has a great office staff, very friendly yet very
professional. Dr. Westbrock has brought be back to health and I highly
recommend him if you need a good endo in the Dayton, OH area." (added

"I am writing to let you know about a physician who prescribes Armour
thyroid. Dr. Hal Blatman is a doctor that uses alternative/complementary
medical practices. He specializes in treating pain, fibromyalgia and
chronic fatigue syndrome. He uses Armour thyroid to treat my chronic
fatigue. Here is where he is located: Hal S. Blatman, M.D., 10635 Techwoods
Circle, Suite 101, Cincinnati, OH 45242, 513-956-3200" Cincinnati
Theodore Cole, The Cole Center for Healing, www.colecenter.com and Cincinnati
Hyperbarics, www.cincinnatihyperbarics.com, 11974 Lebanon Road, Cincinnati,
OH 45241, (513) 563-5321 ext. 8308, fax:(513) 563-3131. "When my last
doctor out and out refused to try me on Armour, I found a D.O. who practices
alternative methods....natural remedies. HE agreed to make the switch
to Armour without batting a lash! His name is Theodore Cole. I'm more
than ready to try another route. 18 years on Synthroid was more than
enough!!" (Edited 6/03)
Another recommendation:
"I am seconding the motion to recommend Dr. Cole in Cincinnati," writes
one reader, "I actually travel from Columbus, Ohio to see him. He is
the best doctor I’ve ever had. He was the only doctor who was positive
and caring about my condition. Thanks to his care, I have been in REMISSION
from thyroid disease for over 2 1/2 years!"
Another reader writes: "Dr. Cole has a new office in the Cincinnati
area. He has expanded his alternative therapies. I haven't tried the
new treatments because I'm still in remission from thyroiditis (hypo)
that at its worst resulted in thyroid surgery and poor health for years...
I want to add that I have continued to enjoy great health since I have
been his patient. I last referred him on the Top Doc List back in 2000.
I'm still drug-free, symptom-free, and my immune system is so strong
now- not even a cold in about 4 years!!!! Truly amazing! You can get
well!!!" (Added 6/02)
Another reader recommends Dr. Cole:
"Dr. Cole is simply a true doctor. He treats the body and mind and he
has a wealth of natural treatments in his office. He works with you
to get you truly healthy, doesn't just prescribe drugs. He diagnosed
me with hypothyroidism almost a year ago; I'm taking Armour thyroid
and the supplements he recommends. My health and life now is better
than I had ever dared hope." (Added 6/03)
Another reader writes:
"In summary, although I am grateful that Dr. Cole helped me in many
ways and it sounds like others have greatly benefited under his care,
I am no longer comfortable with his method of not considering blood
work as a part of the diagnosis." (added 1/04)
Another reader writes:
"I went through six different docs until Dr. Cole finally listened and diagnosed from symptoms verses
from some standerdized test. He has helped me finally feel better and put me on the path to good health.
He lets me make the final decision about my health and gives me the information I need to do so. I drive
over 200 miles round trip to see him and would drive further if I need to. I believe in him so, that I have
brought my Mom to see him now. I have never had him cancel any appts. and he has even fit me in for
an apponitment with only a three hour notice. A true God send." (Added 6/05)
Note: Some readers report that Dr. Cole is prone to cancellation of appointments at the last
minute, is very expensive, and tends to push sales of supplements. Confirm appointments and costs ahead
of time, and specify ahead of time if you are not interested in purchasing any supplements from this
practitioner. (Added: Jan 06) Cincinnati
Francis M. Collins, Endocrinologist, Cherry Grove 463 Ohio Pike 513-528
5600 or Clifton Good Samaritan Hospital 3219 Clifton Ave Phone 513-281-1555
He listens and is willing to work with you. He is supposed to be the
"authority" among the doctors in Cincinnati. He has me on Armour and
has checked my pituitary. He removed my thyroid via iodine radiation
ten years ago. He looks at your nails, reflexes, skin, hair and cares.
While I do not think any of them are top notch Dr. Collins comes close.
He even calls me at home and sends me copies of my tests etc. He will
give you sites to look up things about your thyroid. The personnel in
his office is a mess. This is the only down about him. Cincinnati

"He is wonderful!!! What more can I say? Dr. Ringle calls me, PERSONALLY, not his staff, to check
and see how I am feeling. This man is very dedicated not only to his work, but to his patients. He truly
cares for their well-being. As a cancer survivor, and after many years of "so-so" treatment from other
physicians, this man was a breath of fresh air!! I had one Dr. not so much as even turn around and look
at me, not once!!! his back was to me the WHOLE TIME!!!!! I was mortified. Dr. Ringle sat down and
talked WITH me, not AT me. His hospital affiliations are as follows; Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital
and Solove Research Institute, University Hospitals East, University Hospitals, (Ohio State University).
Can you tell I think he is a wonderful physician? " (Added: Dec. 04) Cincinnati
Dr. Sharon Miller, Diabetes/Endocrinology, 629 Oak St., Suite 302,
Cincinnati,
OH 45206, 513-861-0012. "Dr. Miller really treats you as a patient not
a lab value. I have dealt with Hashimoto’s/hypothyroid for the past
15 years - I'm 34 now. In Feb. 2003, I was admitted for renal failure,
fluid overload, and multiple organ shut down. I went to the Cleveland
Clinic 4 times and they told me to switch to an endocrinologist - that
it was my thyroid and all of my symptoms (130 lb weight gain of fluid,
fibromyalgia, infertility, IBS, renal failure, etc.). My family doctor
referred her to me. Since April of 03 she has changed my dose. I'm feeling
so much better, we have long way since there was some damage from my
previous illnesses, Also I'm 6 months pregnant after 7 years and 4 doctors
telling me it wouldn't happen. I owe her my life - she has given it
back to me." (added 1/04)
Another reader writes:
"Dr. Miller is a young doctor, willing to listen, and try a different approach. I had been seeing my PCP
for hypothyroidism, but I was still feeling tired even though my levels were normal. My primary would
not look at alternatives, only told me to get more sleep. Dr. Miller suggested raising my dosage slightly
to see if it helped. She also mentioned that, as I was thinking about starting to have children in the next
year or so, that I would need to come in to be tested right before my husband and I started actively trying
to get pregnant. She told me I would need to come in every 4-6 weeks to get my levels tested, especially
in the first trimester. This is what the new recommendations are. My primary did not believe it was
necessary. Dr. Miller made me feel comfortable and able to ask questions." (Added 6/05)

Dr. Adi Mehta, Endocrinology, 9500 Euclid Ave. / A53, Cleveland, OH
44195, Phone: 216-445-5312,
A reader writes: "In your most recent newsletter, I noticed an item
stating that top docs are needed in several cities including Cleveland,
Ohio. I can highly recommend Adi Mehta, MD of the Cleveland Clinic.
www.clevelandclinic.com. He is an endocrinologist who takes a good deal
of time to assess the patient and determine all the patient's needs.
He is very compassionate and takes the time to carefully explain the
patient's condition, how he intends to treat it and what the patient
should do. (By the way, he is also an expert on diabetes). In my situation,
I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's in the late 80's. I was seen for several
years by an internist who was satisfied that my TSH levels were within
"normal" limits and I felt fine. I went to see and ear, nose and throat
doc about 4 years ago for sinus and allergy problems. This doc was concerned
with the size of my thyroid, which had apparently been growing. I was
then referred to Dr. Mehta, who adjusted my Synthroid upward, has monitored
my condition, and the gland has reduced and stabilized in size."
Another reader recommends Dr. Mehta
" I highly recommend Dr. Adi Mehta. Dr. Mehta does not minimize my concerns,
and he is willing to go one step further regardless if the therapy is
of the non-conforming type. And last but not least, he does not scoot
his patients out the door, he will take the time needed for each individual
patient."
Another reader writes:
"Dr. Mehta continues to be the answer to my prayers. He took time with me to listen to
my symptoms and my
concerns. I had told other doctors I felt better on higher doses of medication
but they only looked
at lab results and didn't listen to me. After talking to me for at least 45
minutes, Dr. Mehta immediately
suggested a higher dosage of Synthroid along with some dietary changes.
After 3 weeks I am starting to
feel better than ever! Even though there is a wait to see Dr. Mehta, you
won't be disappointed!" (Added Dec. 04)
A reader writes: "I fully agree with the other readers. Dr. Mehta is caring, intuitive, and
he "Listens".
He encourages the patient to participate in their plan of care. After the first appointment, rescheduling
for future appointments is not difficult - the staff is more than willing to try to accommodate you."
(Added: Dec. 04)
Note: Some patients have advised that there is a long waiting list for
Dr. Mehta, but they have not been satisfied with other doctors at Cleveland
Clinic, and advise you wait to see Dr. Mehta. Cleveland
Dr. Christian Nasr, Endocrinology, Cleveland Clinic, Crile Building,
Cleveland, OH, 1-216-444-6568, http://www.clevelandclinic.com. "Drs.
Mehta and Reddy both have a 2 month waiting time for appointments. I
talked to the appointment secretary at length about my criteria for
a new doctor and she referred me to Dr. Nasr. He listened to all my
concerns, asked lots of questions, suggested alternative treatments/meds.
We BOTH decided upon a new course of treatment for my Graves...something
3 previous doctors would not even consider. I am going back in two months
for more blood work; until then he told me to contact him with any questions
etc." (Added 6/02).
Another recommendation:
"Just a comment for people not wanting to wait for an appt with Drs.
Mehta or Reddy at the Cleveland Clinic. I saw Dr. Nasr and was very
impressed with the amount of time he spent with me; going over all of
my concerns. He listened to what I wanted and then made suggestions
following what I thought was best for me! This after going to 3 doctors
in 4 years. He is articulate, knowledgeable and very willing to work
with me to optimize my treatment and meds." (Added 6/02).
A reader writes:
"I saw Dr. Nasr today with a plethora of endocrine related issues today.
He listened very carefully too all of my symptoms, issues and recent
illnesses. He asked a lot of questions and treated me with a lot of
respect. I did not leave feeling like I was a lab result and I felt
that he saw my issues as real and not a figment of my imagination. He
very clearly explained to me what tests he planned to run and why and
explained to me how the results would affect my treatment plan. I felt
that as my treatment progresses he will explain both what we're doing
and more importantly to me why he has chosen that course of treatment.
I did not feel that if I had walked in with Mary's book he would have
blinked an eye." (Added 4/04)
Another reader writes:
"At age 32 I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism. My family doctor is indeed a member of my "family".
He said once my levels were within "normal range" he could do no more for my condition even though
my symptoms persisted. Dr Nasr took time to listen and figure out a course of treatment that stopped the
fatigue, depression, and all the other symptoms that go with being a t-patient. I can honestly say I do not
know where I would be now if I hadn't found Dr Nasr. I am very thankful he choose to become a doctor.
You never feel rushed and he encourages his patients to keep in contact by email. He treats symptoms
not just lab results. He is excellent. I travel 1.5 hours to be treated by Dr Nasr." (Added 6/05) Cleveland
Dr. Sethu Reddy, MD, Cleveland Clinic Endocrinology Dept., Cleveland,
Ohio. A reader writes: "I saw him for a 2nd opinion after I was diagnosed
with Grave's Disease. I was nursing a baby at the time and didn't want
to wean. He was very understanding, took lots of time with me, and respected
me for having done some research on my own and asking questions. Very
pleased with his care." Cleveland

Jennifer Wojtowicz D.O., Board Certified Endocrinology, Cleveland Clinic
Foundation 9500 Euclid
Ave., Cleveland, Ohio 44195, Phone: 216.444.2273, cleveland clinic foundation, A patient writes: "After
being very disappointed with another dr listed on this web site, I almost cancelled my appt. with Dr Jen.
Thank God I went to see her. After complaining of symptoms for YEARS and always being told my
levels were normal, I was so frustrated and full of despair. Dr. Jen was the FIRST dr to test my thyroid
antibodies-thus diagnosing me with Hashimoto's thyroiditis. She is very smart yet warm and friendly. She
had no problem with my taking Armour. She actually shared info with me that I had not heard before.
She said it was HER job to figure out a game plan after I told her how sick I felt and how tired I was
of doing my own research. She was so smart but nonjudgemental. I especially liked the fact that she did
not act like the research I had done on line was not infomercial type-information. I wish I had "found"
her years ago. I have wasted so much time and money. " (Added: Dec. 04)
A reader writes:
"I would just like to thank the person who recommended Dr.
Wojtowicz on this website. Your recommendation led me to make an
appointment with her, and she has been the first doctor to take my
concerns about my thyroid (goiter/hypothyroidism) seriously. I'm only 29
and I've been going from doctor to doctor about this issue for almost 15
years. I'm finally getting the treatment I need. Thanks again!" (Added June 2005)
Another recommendation:
"I finally found a doctor who is knowledgeable about the thyroid and the symptoms. She doesn’t make
you feel crazy or stupid when you describe all the symptoms you are going through." (Added

Dr. John Baumert, Nuclear Medicine, Riverside Hospital. A reader shares
this story: "It has been a little over 2 years since I was diagnosed
with Thyroid Cancer. Since then I have been through several doctors,
some after moving from Columbus to the Dayton/Cincinnati area. Dr. Baumert
is the only doctor that I have seen regarding my thyroid problems about
whom I can say I actually trust his opinion/knowledge. He was an Endocrinologist
prior to becoming a Nuclear Medicine specialist. He seems to prefer
to err on the side of caution, which I appreciate considering the gravity
of cancer. He is very knowledgeable about I-131 treatment, the low iodine
diet, etc. He truly seems dedicated. Almost a year ago I went to a new
Nuclear Med doc (in Dayton) for my yearly round of whole body scans
and possible radioactive iodine treatment. The new doc found some small
spots on the scan that he thought to be spreading to the lymph nodes.
He was all set to dose me up with over 200 millicuries of radiation
when I asked that he contact Dr. Baumert because I recalled similar
tiny spots last year. Dr. Baumert actually took the time to call back
and forth, even fax his own drawing of spots on his copies of scans
from the prior year, spending a good deal of time on someone who was
no longer his patient. His extra care and attention saved me a week
of hell, and who knows whatever possible effects of additional radiation.
If you are in the Columbus area and are in need of follow up treatment
for Thyroid cancer, I highly recommend Dr. Baumert. Unfortunately, I
was never able to locate a regular Endo that was worth anything other
than headaches." Columbus
Dr. John Blackman Endocrinology 500 E . MAIN St Suite 100, Columbus,
OH 43215, 614-222-2202. A reader writes: "After
a dozen years of well-meaning docs trying to force this hypothyroid
freak's numbers to add up, my last doc rolled her eyes & sent me off
to see Dr. Blackman. He finally had an explanation - it is likely that
I (and my late mother) have a confounding syndrome called thyroid resistance.
He is willing to LISTEN. My numbers are kooky, but they are consistent.
He is OK with that. He has seen me through two pregnancies (healthy
kids!) and works well with my PCP. He has been an absolute godsend.
I recommended him to a co-worker, who also is thrilled to have found
a doc who listens, can diagnose, and who explains things. Funny thing
is, his specialty is actually diabetes." (Added 11/02)
Another reader recommends Dr. Blackman:
"He listens and he perseveres. He is not afraid to ask for help from
other doctors. The man has no ego, his sole goal is to help you regain
your help. Plus he is intelligent and witty, and office visits are a
pleasure " (added 1/04)
More praise from a reader for Dr. Blackman:
"This man is the most intelligent, caring doctor I have ever gone to,
bar none. He successfully treated my condition until I pretty much tanked
and was not too proud to send me for a referral. If you have questions,
he calls you. If you are having problems, he fits you into his schedule
the same day. And manages to have very little waiting time when you
have a scheduled appointment. I would recommend him to anyone who has
a problem in this area." (added 1/04)
Another fan:
"Dr. Blackman is one of my favorite Drs he is knowledgeable and very hands on, Dr Blackman takes
the
time to listen and he is very thorough and he cares about you . Dr Blackman has been my endocrinologist
since 1997 and I am very fortunate to have him as my Dr." (Added 1/06) Columbus
Dr. Deborah Gordish, internal medicine, 3900 Stoneridge Ln., Columbus,
OH (614) 889 -5001. A reader tells us, "First off, Dr. Gordish actually
sits and listens to you. She doesn’t just take notes and say uh huh.
Although she still isn’t too hot on the supplemental T3 idea, she knew
that with Hashimoto's with a goiter, I needed to keep my T2 at the low
end of normal not just in range. She was aware of the Synthroid lawsuits
and its problems and when I brought it up stated she didn’t think it
would be approved and asked if Id just like to go on Unithroid now,
and who knows; maybe I’d have an easier time staying adjusted. Dr Gordish
was very interested in the thyroid page here at about.com and at least
appeared interested when I cited the articles and interviews. She always
makes sure I am called regarding any lab work that affects my medication.
I believe she is a very concerned and involved doctor. (Maybe I’ll sell
her on the T3 idea yet.)" Columbus
John Heintz, Internal Medicine, 1117 West First Ave, Columbus, OH

LEAST 30 minutes with me every time I visit. He is open to my research
and discusses my condition with me. He added Cytomel to my dosage of
Synthroid and recently prescribed a natural thyroid medicine (Naturethroid)
for me. He is a good listener and wants to do all that he can to help
me FEEL better and doesn't just look at the numbers. He is very knowledgeable
about the endocrine system and also treats my husband for type 1 diabetes."

my scar is almost invisible." Columbus

He took the time to ask me how I feel not just physically but also emotionally.
My husband and I were surprised when he personally called us to inform
us about the results of my tests. He cares for his patients as individuals.
Another reader recommends Dr. Tazgournis:
"Dr. Tazgournis is the most professional-caring doctors I have even
been to. His name was given to me by my family Physician. He personally
called me to talk to me about problems I was having and always returned
my messages. During the clinics he explained my options clearly and
was very patient. I feel confident that he will make me healthy again.

from Florida with a friend and she went back home alone! I am amazed! Now he is working on my
thyroid and diabetes! HIGHEST PRAISES TO DR. JOHN LARRIMER!!!" (Added Dec. 04)
A reader writes:
"Doc Larrimer is a thorough, caring, very knowledgeable doctor who listens, considers both physical and
emotional health and takes his time with you." (Added 6/05)
Another reader writes:
"I wish Dr. Larrimer could be my doctor for everything. He asks so many important questions and listens
to the answers. He doesn't just read test results. If that were the case, then I would not have been
diagnosed with thyroid cancer let alone any type of thyroid dysfunction. Yet my body told a different
story and he figured it out when other doctors did not. I live in New York now and I still go back to see
Dr. Larrimer at least once a year because I trust him more than any other doctor I have ever had."

Dr. Taj Rashid, Internist, 7111 N. Main Street Dayton -- Ohio 45415
A reader writes: "After being handed prescriptions of anti-depressants
and being continually sick -- I finally found a doctor who would listen
to me. He is an internist and I have found him very receptive to making
me a partner in my own care. He listens to my complaints. Yet -- he
is receptive to options that I've learning of through reading and he
has been real supportive of my ideas. His ideas have also included nature
remedies when I've become sick -- which is fewer times now. He has motivated
me and given me ideas to encourage a mind- body connection with myself.
His name is Dr. Rashid and his office is 937-277-2121. After constantly
being sick for the past two years and labeled depressed by another doctor
-- Dr. Rashid was willing to listen to me. I can' tell you the difference
in my health now that I've been diagnosed properly and placed on the
correct medication for my THYROID problems.......and it's not anti-depressants
either !" Defiance
Timothy Hogan, MD, General Practice, 1125 Ralston Avenue, Defiance,
Ohio, 419-782-0209, drtim@doctorhogan.com/www.doctorhogan.com, A reader writes: "I
have been dealing with numerous symptoms related to thyroid disease and many
unexplained symptoms. I have tried multiple doctors, specialists, modes of treatment, herbs, etc, to no
avail due to unexplained sensitivity to foods, drugs, herbs, vitamins - the list goes on. On my first visit
to Dr. Hogan he gave me hope and I now have answers and treatment and am feeling so much better than
I have in years. He really gets down to the root of the problem instead of treating symptoms. I actually
have adrenal exhaustion contributing to the problem and NONE of any of the other doctor investigated
this (probably don't even recognize it). I recommend Dr. Hogan to anybody for any health problem. Cost
is very reasonable." (Added Apr 06) Duncan

back pain. When she was taking my medical history, she discovered that
I was on Synthroid and mentioned that if I would ever want, she could
run additional tests to check my thyroid. Eventually, we started testing
my saliva for thyroid hormones. We compare my blood test results from
my internal medicine doctor with the results of the saliva test and
Dr. Krohn helps me to read those results and determine my next steps.
She has provided me with supplements and is VERY knowledgeable about
how the body works as a whole and how my thyroid functions. She has
also guided me on weight loss and soon I am going to do a clinical purification
program to help balance out my hormones. I highly recommend Michele

Synthroid for about 1&1/2 years (and feeling horrible), I decided to
find a doctor with an alternative view of the treatment for hypothyroidism.
I wanted T3 (Armour) and wanted it now. All the latest research proved
to me that was the proper medication for me. Dr. Romig was recommended
to me by a friend. My first appointment was over an hour! He explained
EVERYTHING and even gave me a copy of my lab work. Every follow-up visit
is at least 1/2 hour of explanation and discussion. He is a cool guy
who knows the proper treatment of hypothyroidism, among other hormonal
disorders. He will only prescribe natural hormones. If you are looking
for a naturopathic/holistic doctor with an M.D., make an appointment

at
ease rather than on the defense. Which has been my habit in the previous four years. What a relief to
not be made to feel like an idiot when it concerns ones' own body. This man was what I know is a

as many people do. My endocrinologist told me that was as good as it

rapidly Dr. Kamens was the first doctor I saw who ran a thyroid test.
Also, as my new PCP he went over all my medical records with me once
he received them. After starting me on Synthroid I requested an appointment
to talk about how he was going to treat it and to see how opened minded
he was with "Living Well with Hypothyroidism" and "Thyroid Source Book"
in tow he was. He knows about the newest research. He was open to try
other medications if I wanted to. I asked him what his goal was for
my TSH level. He said 2-3. I wanted to hug him and tell him he was saving
my life. I am sending him a Thank You card. He sent me to an Endo. doc

is actually able to listen to a patient and make a CLINICAL diagnosis
of thyroid disease -- regardless of numbers. He does do blood work and
gets the numbers -- but he uses them as a guide -- not a hard and fast
rule. He diagnosed me even though my TSH was still inside the "normal"
range at 3.9. He listened to me when I wanted to get a full thyroid
panel including T3 -- FT3 and FT4 tests and he ordered them for me.
When I wanted to switch to Unithroid -- I just sent him a fax outlining
my reasons and he called the Rx right in! It's easy to get a hold of
his office -- and he'll often work with you over the phone to save you
a visit in person -- which can be very convenient. According to Forest
Pharmaceuticals -- he has even prescribed Armour for some patients --
although I haven't tried to get it from him myself yet. He's wonderful
- sweet -- kind -- and caring. I cannot praise him enough. "

Why is a Particular Doctor No Longer Listed?
Doctors who were previously listed here are removed for a number of reasons.
1. The doctor has requested that his/her listings be removed because: he/she does not agree with this site’s philosophy or patient-orientation; the practice is too busy and can’t accept new patients; the doctor does not feel comfortable handling complicated thyroid problems; the doctor did not agree with what was said in the patient recommendations; or the doctor said “take me off the list” and offered no explanation.
2. The doctor has moved, retired, or died.
3. The doctor has lost his/her license, or given up his/her license, and is no longer practicing medicine.
4. Patients have provided negative input about the doctor that is of sufficient concern that, in the opinion of the editor, the doctor should no longer be on the Top Thyroid Doctors List.
Thyroid Top Doctors would face legal concerns if we published specific information about why patients had negative opinions about doctors, or if we shared a doctor’s occasional ranting ”take me off” email, or if we publicized doctors with licensing problems. So please, if you see that a doctor has been taken off the list and want to know why, talk to the doctor directly. If you write to us to ask why a doctor was taken off the list, we’re sorry, but we won’t be able to answer you or share that information.
