ABOUT THE THYROID TOP DOCTORS DIRECTORY
The following listing includes recommended doctors and practitioners for your thyroid care.
Please note that being listed here in the Thyroid Top Doctors Directory doesn't necessarily mean a doctor is the right one for you. The doctor may be an empathetic and warm physician, but not open to working with drugs like Armour or T3 drugs. Or the doctor may be quite costly and not on insurance programs. Always call the doctor's office ahead of time to find out more about the doctor's philosophy, approach, costs, and other important factors before going in for your first appointment.
Please let us know if you have feedback about doctors listed here, or would like to recommend your doctor.
Albany
Samer El-Deiry Endocrinology The Endocrine Group 1365 Washington
Ave.
Albany, NY 12206 518-489-4704 www.theendocrinegroup.com A reader writes:
"Dr. El-Deiry was able to adjust my thyroid levels to make me feel better
than I did before Radioactive iodine RX. My 2nd endo. MD recommended
iodine Rx for Graves hyperthyroidism. My TSH jumped to 38 in a few weeks.
He was able to get my TSH in "normal range" but I never felt good. My
primary care Nurse Practitioner recommended Dr. El-Deiry and his group
(The Endocrine Group). I am now taking a T4/T3 combination and feel
great! I can't thank Dr. El-Deiry enough!!! Albany

Richard Ginsburg, M.D. Internist specializing in endocrinology
Endocrinologist
614 Madison Ave, Albany, NY 12208 (518)436-4991 "Dr. Ginsburg listens,"
says one reader, "responds and keeps his skills and knowledge up-to-date.
I was first referred to him nine years ago for a needle biopsy and he
has since then managed my care for papillary carcinoma. He answers questions
honestly, but supportively. He has an excellent referral network and
the other specialists to whom he has referred me have all been eminently
satisfactory. He returns calls. He is a Red Sox fan who is sympathetic
to my predilection for the Chicago Cubs! I trust that he respects my
rights and wishes as a medical consumer, that he will give me the best
available information, then let me make the choices." Albany

"He's capable, smart, caring, and personable." (Added Apr 06) Amherst & Williamsville
Karen Giardino, General endocrinologist, 1000 Youngs Rd., Second Floor,
Amherst, NY, 716-636-1947. Meadowlands Professional Park, 1000 Youngs
Road, Williamsville, NY 14221. "This doctor may or may not be the doctor
for you. She is willing to treat thyroid with medication even if you
are in normal range but have the antibodies. She works to get your tsh
levels below 1. And she is very staunch and aggressive in that department.
She will not prescribe Armour. She did get me feeling much better when
another endo wouldn't increase my meds. However she is not personable
and is not easy to ask questions of. She comes across as brusque and
hurried, and is impossible to reach outside of an appointment, and her
office staff make sure that is the case."
IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT DR. GIARDINO: You'll need to verify if you make an appointment that you will be seen by Dr. Karen
Giardino, and not a substitute doctor or her sister, a nurse, Susan Giardino. Verify for EACH
appointment, as some patients report that follow-up visits are not with her. (Added 1/06)
A reader writes:
"Hypo friend lost 40 lbs with
her. I finally got in to see her. Spent 31 minutes, had labs and scans
sent before initial visit (from history). Very good, sharp, caring,
optimistic, gets results--well known as Top Thyroid Doc in this area-for
good reason. Worth the wait to get in to see!"
Another fan of Dr. Giardino:
"I’ve been going to Doctors and another endocrinologist for the last
3 1/2 years, But my TSH is in "the normal range." I have a multi-nodule
goiter with high anti-bodies and she is the only one to treat this condition.
My cholesterol level is in the 300’s my triglycerides in the mid 200’s.
I’ve been bothered by being extremely tired and weight gain all the
other doctors looked only at the cholesterol and that fact I’m going
through menopause and blew me off. She told me that I have Hashimoto’s
Disease and I should have been treated before this."
Another reader writes:
"I have been told for at least 5 years that my thyroid as normal. I
have a family history of thyroid disease and was exhibiting many of
the symptoms. I got Dr. Giardino's name from this website. It did take
7 months to get an appointment with her, but it was well worth the wait!
She has diagnosed Hashimoto's disease and we have discovered, through
an ultrasound, a large solid nodule. I am schedule for a fine needle
aspiration in 2 weeks. She put me on Synthroid, .05mg to start. She
is wonderful!! Very up on the latest research and very perceptive. She
listened to everything I had to say and even looked into other possibilities
(insulin resistance). I HIGHLY recommend her." (Updated 2/03)
Another recommendation:
"She indicated to us that she has no problem with Armour and will prescribe
whatever is best and if Armour works fine for you she has no problem
using it. She ordered many of the tests that were needed for us without
us asking. Like DHEA, Cortisol, and Hormone tests. She also scheduled
tests to find out why we have thyroid disease - to find out if it is
Hashimoto’s. Also scheduled sonograms for both me and my husband as
well as ordering other hormonal tests for him as well. We felt that
she listened to us and was willing to work with us. Told us patients
should be informed about their care. She said she works with a plan
to help optimize the thyroid meds to feel the best you can. We were
very satisfied with our first visit." (Added 6/02)
Another reader recommends Dr. Giardino:
"I was so happy when I was referred to Dr. Giardino! She has an excellent
relationship with my primary care provider. I found Dr. Giardino to
be extremely knowledgeable about thyroid disease. She also determined
that I have PCOS, which I am now being treated for. She believes in
treating people the way they feel, not just on numbers from the lab.
She is very aggressive in treatment, and I think that might put some
people off. She put me on Metformin, which has greatly increased my
energy levels. It is difficult getting in to see her, and I had to wait
4 months before I got in, but the receptionist is usually glad to let
you know if there are any cancellations in the office. Tip: be nice
to them, and they'll bend over backwards to do whatever they can for
you. Dr. Giardino also appreciates it when people are knowledgeable
about their conditions, because that makes treatment easier." (added
1/04)
More praise from a reader for Dr. Giardino:
"Dr. Giardino was great. She listens, she is smart, and she realizes
that every body is different. She does not completely go by blood test,
but will work with you until you feel better. I was impressed with her
diagnostic abilities and her thoroughness in my evaluation. She was
very professional, very straight forward and spoke loudly and clearly.
It took 7 months to get in to see her. She said if I have problems to
call, and I believe she will be reachable. One reader wrote that she
does not prescribe Armour. I do not think this is true. She and I discussed
it as a possibility - she brought it up. I am already beginning to feel
healthier." (added 1/04)
Another reader writes:
"She is fantastic. I really felt like my health problems were all in
my head until I started seeing Dr. Giardino. She doesn't just follow
what the lab tests say, she listens to what I have to say about how
I feel. She has been a lifesaver to me and my sisters who were also
diagnosed with Hashimoto's."
A reader writes:
"I found Dr Giardino from your site top thyroid Drs..... I was
very impressed with Dr Giardino and her office staff...... I live over 3
hrs away and it took me about 4 months to get the appt... but I feel it
was worth it...... I left early for my apt but got lost trying to find her
office.... and arrived about 20 mins late.. I fully expected to have to
reschedule but Dr Giardino still saw me what must have been her lunch
hour.... I have be have had hypothyroidism for about 30 yrs.... She went
over my past treatment and confirmed to me that my treatment in the past
has not been the best. I had been on been on Armour thyroid in the past
for about 15 to 20 years before another Endocrinologist put me on
Synthroid , I always seem to feel and do alot better on the Armour..." (Added
Dec 04)
Another reader writes:
"I have had Dr. Giardino for 9 years. She really understands my needs."
(Added 6/05)
Another fan:
"Dr. Giardino is very knowledgeable, and easy to speak with. She really cares about her patients, and
wasn't so quick to throw synthroid down my throat, like many other doctors I have seen in the past (I
have a mild case of hypothyroid, where my TSH is elevated, but my T3's and T 4's are normal). She
gave me many options, as far as treatment, and even explained to me that I could use natural supplements
to assist my condition. She explained everything in simple terms, and I left feeling positive about my
visit." (Added 1/06)
Another fan:
"I was with another endocrinologist for 3 months and was very dissatisfied with him.....long wait, even
with an appt, meeting with interns, instead of Dr and many more reasons. Went to this website and read
about Dr. Karen Giardino. It was worth a shot. I could not get an appt for 4 months but I told them to
put me on the cancellation list. Within one week they called and said they had a cancellation for the next
week! I was thrilled. Dr. Giardino spent a full one hour with me and asked my history (3 full pages of
handwritten notes). She was so thorough and knowledgeable about this disease. She immediately increased
my meds, put me on the same generic meds (Levoxyl) and ordered a sonogram of my thyroid. She also
said that my last blood work results were incorrect. There is no way my levels were what they indicated.
She said I would be crawling out of my skin! I highly recommend her!" (Added 1/06)
A reader writes:
"THANK GOD FOR DR. GIARDINO! She is amazing, compassionate, open-minded,
and will fight for the patient! For two years I've been fighting to get proper treatment since my original
endo left his practice to focus on diabetes research. I've been told I'm bi-polar, don't have a thyroid
problem, and been outright lied to about the severity of my nodules. Dr. Giardino set straight the truth
about my thyroid (I've got a multi-nodular goiter) and called out the lab that said my ultrasound was
unchanged, despite the fact that they were four new nodules. The last endo I saw told me my ultrasound
was "fine" and told Dr. Giardino I didn't have a thyroid problem. Dr. Giardino knew better. Is it any
wonder she's in such high demand?" (Added Apr 06)
IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT DR. GIARDINO: Note: it's recently been reported that this doctor may
not be providing full-service care, and is only be functioning as a consultant, reviewing patients, but
referring them to nurse practitioners for actual ongoing care. You'll need to verify beforehand that you
will be seen regulary by Dr. Karen Giardino, and not a substitute doctor or her sister, a nurse,
Susan Giardino, or a nurse practitioner. Verify for EACH appointment, as some patients
report that follow-up visits are not with her. (Added 1/06 and 4/06)

Dr. John Leone, Family Practice 61 Maple Rd Amherst, NY, 14221,
716-565-1234.
A reader writes: "Dr. Leone is a five star doctor. He is so good that
I'm afraid if I tell everyone that his office will get too busy. I was
able to change from Synthroid to Armour thyroid without any fuss. He
listens and understands that one medicine is not for everyone and that
everyone is an individual! Let me say as forthyroid, someone dear to
him has a thyroid problem so he does understand. He conveys to me that
the group of doctors he is associated with are switching their thyroid
patients to Armour Thyroid if Synthroid is not doing the job." (Added
4/03)
Another reader writes:
"I agree that Dr. Leone is top-notch! He was willing to switch me from Synthroid to Armour Thyroid.
He didn't have a problem with it at all, felt that I could benefit from it, and if that was what I wanted,
he would prescribe the Armour. I feel so much more like my old self that it is unbelievable. Dr. Leone
is very easy to talk with about concerns and treatment. The best part is, he was already my Primary
Doctor and I found out thru this site that he was a recommended Doctor for Thryoid!!!!" (Added

Shahid Haque, Endocrinology, 4247 Maple Rd., NY 14226, 716-835-9871.
A reader writes: "Dr. Haque is a board-certified endocrinologist and is the 4th endo I have seen in the
Buffalo, NY area. I have been under his care for 3 yrs. after my last endo overmedicated me and I
suffered hyper symptoms along with chest pains and thought I was going to have a cardiac event! Dr.
Haque does not rush you out of his office and listens to your concerns and addresses them and explains
in detail. My TSH fluctuates several times per year and he suggested that I try alternating 2 different dose
which seems to be working for the past 6 mos. so far! If I call him because I feel like something is
wrong, he will order a blood test and believes me.... He always gives me a complete physical exam
annually and orders complete blood work and addresses all issues. His staff is very competent and
friendly and the office is very clean." (Added 6/05) Ballston Spa
Dr. Eugene Merecki, Family Practice, Malta Family Medical, Malta
Commons,
Ballston Spa, NY 12020 (518) 899-2632. A reader shares this story; "I
had some blood work done during a routine physical exam with Dr. Merecki,
a Family Practice physician, during which he conducted a very thorough
interview. He took it upon himself to test for hypothyroid, although
I never even considered this a possibility. Within two days of the physical,
the test results came back for Hashimoto's Disease. I was immediately
put on Synthroid and will be retested every four months to check my
levels. Upon hearing so many horror stories from people who cannot get
their doctors to even test for this disease, I felt I had to recommend
this conscientious and proactive doctor. I had been complaining to my
Ob Gyn for several years about irregular periods, weight gain and depression
but he never considered this possibility. I am grateful for my Family
Practice Physician!"
Another fan:
"I had been tested for many years by other physicians because of my enlarged thyroid, but the tests
always
came back negative. This doctor trusted what he felt in my thyroid and ran a more intensive set of tests
and finally diagnosed my problem as Hashimoto's Disease. By the time I was diagnosed, my thyroid had
failed 50%. I am very thankful for Dr. Merecki's persistence in following his instincts." (Added 1/06)

doctorcohen@aol.com. This reader "strongly recommends" Dr. Cohen. "He's
a naturopath and very needed for "Hard Cases" such as myself."
Another reader writes:
"This Dr. David Cohen is something else. His body scan reading was eerily
accurate about medical problems I USED to have as well as the two I
still have. About two hours after his homeopathic remedy, I felt enormous
relief from my arthritis pain. I really have to say he gave me more
relief than any five doctors added up together. Very recommendable fellow.
Such relief!"
Another reader recommends Dr. David Cohen:
"My neighbor, about 75 yrs young, went to Dr. Cohen after she was diagnosed
with Hepatitis C. Not wanting all the heavy-duty meds which weren't
working, she followed Dr. Cohen's recommendations, using only naturopathic
remedies, and the improvement was so much better than anything the pharmaceuticals
could do that her medical doctor cut her thyroid med in half. He's becoming
a legend in Brooklyn for really tough cases. I'm quite impressed." (Added
11/02)
More praise from a reader for Dr. Cohen:
"Five doctors in a row, including two who are renowned and very expensive,
could not put a label on my numerous symptoms. Within an hour or so
of Dr. Cohen doing a body scan, the remedies he suggested starting working.
Can you imagine waiting sixteen months to get relief, and one naturopath
gives you a detailed report about why your body's having so many problems,
and BOOM! Relief in a couple of hours. I can't recommend him enough.
What a wizard." (added 1/04) Brooklyn

because I was not menstruating and was not losing weight and I was always
tired and very fatigued. He ran a battery of tests and after I'd been
to so many doctors who had told me there was nothing wrong with me he
found that I had an underactive thyroid and started hormone therapy
immediately. He also found that I was going through an early menopause.
He is a wonderful doctor. Patient a good listener, and is professional

A reader writes: "After 10 years hypothyroid with little relief on Synthroid, Dr. Torre diagnosed Hashimoto's Disease on the first consult. He was willing to explore other medications (he prescribed ARMOUR) until we found the right combination for my individual chemistry. He took the time to talk with me about how I was feeling, regardless of the TSH and listened to what I had to say without making me feel like I was getting the "bum's rush" out the door. When I made an appointment, I was never scheduled with anyone other than my doctor. He was very well-informed and stayed current with the latest research. I was very fortunate to find him when other doctors didn't want to take the time to be bothered. Due to changes in my health insurance, it's been awhile since I've seen him, but he set me on the road to recovery. Unfortunately, my new doctors aren't as highly competent as he was. I miss him and his excellent skills as a doctor who listens to his patients." (June 2006)

bed side manner. visited me even through radiation treatment. Can’t
say enough great things about him."
Another reader recommends Dr. Fahey:
"Dr. Fahey was listed under cornel on this site, He was also listed
as an endo. Unfortunately he is a surgeon who specializes in thyroid
surgery. I recently had my thyroid removed and he is an outstanding
Dr. with an amazing bedside manner. Having had grave's disease, then
becoming euthyroid and later becoming hypothyroid, Hashimoto's thyroiditis,
Dr. Fahey removed my entire thyroid, which did have papillary cancer.
I have never met a surgeon who takes the time and care with each of
his patients. I highly recommend him to anyone needing thyroid surgery."

approachable, kind and responsive doctors I have ever met. His invaluable expertise and caring nature
have been extremely helpful as a patient receiving treatment for hypothyroidism. I highly recommend
him." (Added 6/05)
Another reader writes:
"Dr. Romero was a Godsend to me....I was experiencing all the typical symptoms of thyroid disease and
sought out a top doc because my endo refuse d to deal with anything other than my TSH level...I got
very depressed and frustrated as my symptoms were clearly related to my Hashimoto’s disease, yet they
would not treat me beyond a certain point...(fear of lawsuits??) I sought and got relief from my symptoms
as Dr. Romero listened to my sobs and saw my despair. There is hope, and he encourages you to find
it. I am on Armour now and feeling better than I have in over one year...I no longer feel the despair of,
is this how my life is going to be? Dr. Romero uses meaningful analogies to help you find that little
"ember, and fan it" . He has been a blessing in an otherwise atrocious year." (Added 6/05)
Another reader writes:
"My hypothyroidism is under control and I lost almost 30 pounds. Dr Romero listens and follows up.
He also communicates and
encourages through email in between appointments." (Added June 2005)
More praise for Dr. Romero:
"Dr. Romero is a ‘body mechanic.’ He listens to his patients and understands how the body works. I
am reborn. The energy I have alone is amazing. I’m on Armour Thyroid and seeing such an
improvement. Make an appointment to see the body mechanic, you will not be sorry!" (Added 10/05)
Another fan of Dr. Romero:
"Dr. Romero has done more for me than my endocrinologist. He listens to the person with compassion,
develops a total wellness plan including diet, nutrition, exercise, and medication/herbs. I highly
recommend him to anyone who is not satisfied with their doctor." (Added 10/05) East Setauket

Brook, State University of Stony Brook, 26 Research Way, East Setauket,
NY 11733, 516 444-0580. A reader writes: "Dr. Gelato is a caring, listening,
open minded doctor. When I complained about how I felt on Synthroid,
she listened, tried other dosages, and listened some more. I don't feel
right on Synthroid. I learned about Armour Thyroid. She was open to
trying it. I've been on Armour now for almost 2 years. I feel much better.
Need I say more? She is definitely a top doc!"
Another reader writes:
"Dr Gelato was the THIRD endocrinologist I had been to and I was not really optimistic
since the others had not really heard my complaints about how I was feeling. Well, I was so pleasantly
surprised! Not only did she listen to my issues, she took my symptoms as well as my "numbers" into
consideration and tried me on Unithroid. To my surprise, within three weeks I felt like a new person!
I can't believe there are still doctors who think that a set of lab values tells the whole story! Dr. Gelato
was willing to see if a different medicine worked for me and how my body would process the medication.
She took my individual symptoms into account and since she treated me as a "whole person" and not just
labwork, she gets my vote as a Top Doc!" (Added Apr 06) Garden City

"Dr. Vaswani, is a terrific diagnostician and also prescribes the right dosage of
medicine. He is easy to talk to. He diagnosed my problem within 2 minutes after meeting me and
prescribed the right dose of Levoxyl. He gave me my life back. I was a mess and my G.P. had put me
on anti depressants which wasn't really the answer. It was a band aid and got me through until I saw Dr.
Vaswani. I went off the anti depressants and I am taking my thyroid medication and I feel great. Dr. V

He's truly in this business to help people, not money hungry at all.
He spends at least an hour each time I see him. Sometimes I spend $140

Huntington
NY 11743, 631-549-4500, www.bariatricdoctor.com I highly recommend Dr.
William Romero. In the past I had been put on Synthroid but had become
symptomatic (gaining weight without any lifestyle/eating changes, sleeping
10-14 hours a day and still feeling exhausted, falling and tripping
so much that moving around was almost a safety hazard . . . etc). After
spending an hour with Dr. Romero on my first visit, I felt like I had
a new lease on life with him as my cheering section. He also prescribed
a combination of Armour and Synthroid and a well balanced diet and exercise
program (it's a lifestyle change, folks!) . . . that was 3 weeks ago.
I just returned from a 2 week European vacation (historically, I gain
about 1 pound per day when I go on vacation despite exercising, watching
my diet and exploring the sights). When I weighed in at Dr. Romero's
office, I did not gain 14 pounds, but instead maintained my weight like
a normal, active person! In Europe, I was also able to explore the sights
(including climbing up to the Acropolis, walking up and down stairs
in Venice, and navigating over many cobblestone walkways) WITH ENERGY
AND WITHOUT TRIPPING! I am now able to sleep a solid 8 hours and wake
up feeling refreshed!! My thinking is clearer and I am not as forgetful
and I used to be. If you live in the LI area and are tired of doctors
who tell you that you overeat, overwork, don't exercise enough or everything
is in your head, you must make an appointment with Dr. Romero. After
28 years, I feel reborn!

I relocated to Malone and upon Dr. Cahill’s suggestion discontinued
that and tried Synthroid and all of its derivatives. I was miserable.
Dr. Cahill wasn’t sold on Armour but allowed me to go back on it and
since then has increased it to more than I was getting because I am
on Premarin and am post menopausal. It is wonderful that I have a doctor
that will listen to me and know that lab results are not the only criteria
for prescribing medications. He genuinely cares for each individual

who didn't do very well with my case. I was over-medicated which resulted
a weight gain of 18lbs within 2 weeks and couldn't seem to reasonably
manage my weight. Once recommended to Dr. Katzeff, my meds were adjusted
properly and a battery of tests was performed to find out more specifically
what I was up against. The first MD just took basic blood work and prescribed
meds. After the new endo ran the tests, it was discovered that prescribing
meds would not solve my problem. Apparently the Graves' was a little
more sensitive than your classic case. Dr. Katzeff worked feverishly
to get me better and was constantly doing research regarding my situation.
He was always available for any questions I had and always treated me
in the utmost professional and caring manner. When it was finally decided
to have a total thyroidectomy (rare for my circumstances) I was put
in the hands of one of the very best surgeons who also took a lot of
care with my case. My case has been documented in medical journals due
to unusual circumstances associated with my Graves disease. Dr. Katzeff
does not believe in alternative meds nor will he treat the depression/ADHD
symptoms with MAOI's, Valium, etc. He treats the physical condition
at hand. I have spoken with many thyroid patients that have been described
with the aforementioned drugs. I cannot say enough kind things about
Dr. Katzeff, his knowledge and persistence has given me my life back...I

causing my fatigue. This was exactly the way I felt and he listened
to me and worked with me…I don't know if it will help but I wanted to
try this first. It almost doesn't matter if it helps me. He listened
to me, worked with me and that means a great deal to me. I am an RN
but that hasn't done much to have a doctor listen to me. He was the
third doctor I went to. The other two refused to try Armour thyroid.

developed multiple other problems while on Synthroid. Some of these are fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue
syndrome, psoriasis, carpal tunnel syndrome, possible sjogrens and others. I asked him if he would be
willing to try different meds. on me or altering the ones I was on. He listened like no other doctor had
and never had an attitude when I made suggestions or told him of things I read. Right now were sort of
in an experimental stage but I have the greatest respect for him, and his willingness to at least try
alternative treatments. I am so thankful to you and your site for previously listing his name and I am just

Dr. Don Zwickler, Endocrinologist, 5 Medical Park Drive. Pomona, New
York 10970. phone: 845-362-3111. A reader testifies, "I was diagnosed
as hypothyroid by a general MD in 1994 with a TSH of 38. I really didn't
have any problems that I knew of - a bit tired maybe - but the doctor
assured me that taking Synthroid would improve my life. After 3 to 4
years of seeing several different doctors - and increasing my Synthroid
to INSANELY high levels (because my TSH wasn't responding) I was gaining
weight, extremely depressed and thinking that I was insane. Now I had
problems. I found Dr. Zwickler who began to give me Cytomel - because
he listened to how I was feeling and judged his decision on how my body
was reacting and appearing - not just on what the blood tests read.
After a few months, under careful attention and dosage adjustments,
I felt better than I ever had - lost weight - was spunky and NO LONGER
DEPRESSED. Then I made a big mistake, I moved and tried a new doctor
for convenience. He convinced me that the Synthroid was never to blame,
put me back on it, and when I sunk back into depression, suggested Zoloft.
3 months and 20 lbs gained - distraught - I called upon Dr. Zwickler
who was SO SUPPORTIVE. I was embarrassed because I left and went to
someone new - but he helped me with no attitude and returned every one
of my frantic phone calls. Now - after seeing him again for a few months,
my moods are back to my normal happy self, my weight stabilized and
I am starting to lose. I feel GREAT. He is truly a kind, intelligent,
and wonderful doctor and I think that he is THE best out there. I drive
over an hour each way to see him and I encourage everyone to help themselves
and talk to him if you are having problems."
Another reader writes:
"I have been a patient of Dr. Zwickler's for many years. He has always
been a caring, compassionate physician. He is also a practical physician
who will not subscribe medication for every ailment. Instead, he suggests
non-medical means for health benefits, especially diet and exercise.
He is always approachable and accessible and returns phone calls promptly.
Although I have moved away from New York, I still go out of my way to
maintain Dr. Zwickler as my caregiver."
Another reader also recommends Dr.
Zwickler:
"I was diagnosed as hypothyroid with a TSH of 38 by a different doctor
at 23 years old I'm 28 now - over the next three or four years I saw
several endocrinologists who kept increasing my Synthroid levels until
I was taking an extremely high dosage enough for a 300 lb. person -
I was only 130 with no results except depression - severe depression
and low T3 levels. I found Dr. Zwickler who listened to HOW I felt and
added Cytomel - I improved instantly. He worked so carefully with me
over the next year to get my meds regulated my weight down and me feeling
GREAT Then I moved - I went to a new doctor for convenience." (Added

More praise from a reader for Dr. Zwickler:
"Dr. Zwickler is the most caring doctor that I have ever seen. He takes
such time and listens so intently and he truly helps you feel better.
Sometimes, I had to stop seeing him regularly because of my health insurance,
only to become ill again. It had been over a year since I had seen Dr.
Zwickler and I was so tired, gaining weight and not happy. After listening
to me so carefully, he put me on Cytomel (besides the Synthroid) and
I felt so much better. My internist just kept saying that my thyroid
results were normal. I knew I had to go back to Dr. Zwickler, and now
I pay a lot each time because my insurance isn't accepted by his office,
but I am happy to pay, because I know that I am getting the most caring,
top-rated care in the world. He is so kind. This is truly a doctor who
wants and loves to help people. He always returns calls promptly and
he in fact encourages you to call to let him know how you are feeling."

Why is a Particular Doctor No Longer Listed?
Doctors who were previously listed here are removed for a number of reasons.
1. The doctor has requested that his/her listings be removed because: he/she does not agree with this site’s philosophy or patient-orientation; the practice is too busy and can’t accept new patients; the doctor does not feel comfortable handling complicated thyroid problems; the doctor did not agree with what was said in the patient recommendations; or the doctor said “take me off the list” and offered no explanation.
2. The doctor has moved, retired, or died.
3. The doctor has lost his/her license, or given up his/her license, and is no longer practicing medicine.
4. Patients have provided negative input about the doctor that is of sufficient concern that, in the opinion of the editor, the doctor should no longer be on the Top Thyroid Doctors List.
Thyroid Top Doctors would face legal concerns if we published specific information about why patients had negative opinions about doctors, or if we shared a doctor’s occasional ranting ”take me off” email, or if we publicized doctors with licensing problems. So please, if you see that a doctor has been taken off the list and want to know why, talk to the doctor directly. If you write to us to ask why a doctor was taken off the list, we’re sorry, but we won’t be able to answer you or share that information.
